MANILA -- Four areas in Luzon are still under tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 as tropical depression "Luis" continues to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
According to state weather bureau PAGASA, as of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, "Luis" was located 285 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora
It continues to pack winds of 55 kph with gusts up to 70 kph and is moving northwestward at 15 kph.
Wind signal no. 1 remains in effect over northern Catanduanes, northern Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Polillo Islands.
Luis may intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours, which may prompt the raising of wind signal no. 2.
The weather disturbance will remain offshore and follow a recurving track east of Luzon.
After recurving, it may weaken until it becomes a remnant low pressure area by Wednesday, August 5, and eventually merge with the broader circulation of the approaching Typhoon Dolphin.
Luis will bring moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and parts of Ilocos Region, Cordillera, and CALABARZON through Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Dolphin may enhance the southwest monsoon over western Luzon and Visayas from Wednesday.
