Idris, the grandson of the departed Apu Sali (Val Iglesias), approaches Jalil (Gerald Anderson), carefully opening the box that contained Sali’s kris, a sword of the Tausug warriors.
Jalil then vividly recalls memories of his time with the younger Sali (Manuel Chua), who taught him the skills and wisdom needed to become a gagandilan, also referred to as a courageous warrior. One of the most important lessons passed on to Jalil was the fact that their Tausug community does not initiate conflict, but when necessary, they will not back down from a battle.
Presently, Idris urges Jalil to accept the kris, which also represents their ancestry as well as the principles of honor, peace, and justice that they have been fighting for. Once again, Jalil remembers the words of Sali, which mentioned the weapon being his eventually, knowing that he will become the protector of Isla Damai and its people.
Idris continues to persuade the hesitant Jalil, pointing out that he made every effort to find it just after Task Force Alpha had left the island after the unforeseen massacre and arrest of Datu Rahman (Jaime Fabregas).
When Jalil’s reputation as the greatest pupil of Sali, combined with his tireless protection of Isla Damai, is brought up, Jalil finally reaches for the kris. He sheds tears, still grieving old Sali’s death during the shootout, which happened to be the first time he held the weapon to try to defeat their foes at the time, including Felix (Baron Geisler) and Marcus (Richard Gutierrez).
