MANILA -- Tropical storm Maymay maintained its strength as while moving northeastward over the sea west of Ilocos Sur.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Maymay was located 145 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

It packs winds of 75 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 90 kph and is moving north northeastward at 10 kph.

Wind signal no. 2 remains up over the following areas:

southern Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Sur

northern and central La Union

northwestern Pangasinan

Abra

western Kalinga

western Mountain Province

northwestern Benguet

Signal no. 1 is up over the rest of mainland Northern Luzon and parts of Central Luzon.

Maymay is expected to move eastward and make landfall over the Ilocos-La Union area later tonight or early Thursday.

It will weaken while crossing Northern Luzon and may be downgraded into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening.

Maymay will bring significant rainfall over Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday.

Torrential rains are expected in Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Benguet while heavy to intense rainfall is likely in Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Pangasinan, and Zambales.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or Habagat, which currently affects Southern Luzon and Western Visayas, will eventually prevail over Luzon and Visayas through the weekend.

Widespread and serious flooding and landslides are expected in many areas.
