MANILA (UPDATED) — One of the three low pressure areas around the Philippine area of responsibility developed into tropical depression Dante on Tuesday afternoon, PAGASA said.

Dante was spotted 1,130 km east of Northern Luzon at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 55 kph. It is moving north northwestward at 20 kph, the state weather bureau said.

It is not seen to make landfall but will enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat through Friday.

No wind signals are expected to be hoisted.

The enhanced Habagat will bring significant rainfall over Luzon and some parts of Visayas.

Up to torrential rains may be expected over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Metro Manila.

Serious threats of flooding and landslides remain.

PAGASA said Dante will intensify up to tropical storm strength while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea.

It may exit the Philippine area of responsibility late Thursday or early Friday.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area near Batanes may either merge with the broader circulation of Dante or cross Extreme Northern Luzon towards the northern West Philippine Sea.
