After astonishing us with his transformations into 12 local and international icons over the past weeks and rounds, Jason Dy went on to further astound us in “The Grand Showdown” of “Your Face Sounds Familiar” as he kicked it off with his fiery performance of Hollywood superstar Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.”
Clad in a cropped yellow hoodie jacket, mini denim shorts, glittery boots, and voluminous curly wig, the “Prince of Soul” indeed brought everyone back in 2018 when “Queen Bey” made history in the popular annual music event Coachella as its first-ever Black female headliner. Jason’s version of “Beychella,” earned a standing ovation from the jury because of how he pulled off not just the fierce look of his icon but also her singing and dancing prowess.
When asked by hosts Jhong Hilario and Vhong Navarro about his most important takeaway from this experience, he said that it was “magtiwala sa sarili.” Jason confessed about being too hard on himself and possessing the so-called “impostor syndrome,” which is the inner feeling about not being good enough. But with the help of YFSF and the processes he’d gone through in every transformation, he discovered that he was actually capable of doing much more and that he still had other things he could offer or give to the audience. Besides, he had also learned to trust himself more.
Because he perfectly captured Beyoncé’s fierceness and onstage moves, juror Klarisse de Guzman called Jason “Jayoncé,” as well as expressed how much she admired his commitment since Day 1. Mentoring and watching him every round had made her realize that he was even better than he thought he was.
Juror Erik Santos, meanwhile, commented on how excellent and breathtaking his transformation was, adding that he had not seen any hint of Jason from the way he looked to the way he performed.
On the other hand, juror Gary Valenciano enthused about how Jason didn’t just give his 100 or 1000 percent for this performance, but his “wow-thousand” percent, while juror Ogie Alcasid remarked that nobody could definitely outwork Jason.
Aside from standing ovation and positive feedback from the jury, the “Prince of Soul” also received the amusing “The Parrot Yarn” award from his “YFSF” family because of his awesome flair not just in imitating his icons but other personalities as well, such as Erik and his fellow celebrity performer Rufa Mae Quinto.
