Believing that easy is boring, as well as taking inspiration from Freddie Mercury’s quotable statement, “Dullness is a disease,” Jarlo Base opted to make things harder for him by choosing the vocalist of the British rock band Queen to be his icon in the “Your Face Sounds Familiar: The Grand Showdown.”

He indeed veered away from his introverted persona as he displayed the signature flamboyance and exaggeration that Freddie was known for as he performed the legendary hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” while wearing a yellow marching band suit reminiscent of what the rock icon donned during his band’s two-day concert at Wembley Stadium in London on July 11 and 12, 1986.

Right after his performance, the “Breakout Crooner” conveyed how truly happy he was to do this, saying, “Ito ang pinakamasayang naramdaman ko sa stage ever in my life!”

Juror Karla Estrada expressed her excitement to see his transformation—and he indeed lived up to it. On the other hand, mentor-slash-juror Nyoy Volante, who once impersonated Freddie in “YFSF” Season 1, imparted how proud he was of his progress and of his courage to break out of his shell. Juror Gary Valenciano somehow echoed this by remarking that he didn’t see the same Jarlo he had first met, while juror Ogie Alcasid jokingly called him “Ready Mercury” because of how obviously prepared he was in this particular performance.

Jarlo may have impersonated a slew of male artists, yet it was his unbelievable depiction of Amy Winehouse—his first and only gender-switch stint in the competition—during the Week 7 that really created a mark for many. Thus, his “YFSF” family came up with the idea of bestowing him the “Borta Babe” award. Initially quipping that his trips to the gym paid off, Jarlo related how over the moon he was to be able to overcome the fear and self-doubt that held him back all his life because of people’s belief in him.

In the final showdown of the celebrity performers, expect an exciting culmination filled with world-class performances and unforgettable impersonations! Don’t miss “Your Face Sounds Familiar: The Grand Showdown” on April 5, 11, and 12 on ABS-CBN via ALLTV2, Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, and iWant.
