Three-time weekly round winner JMielle, comprised by JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano, further challenged themselves in “Your Face Sounds Familiar: The Grand Showdown” by surprising everyone with their recreation of the so-called “killer duet” of Jennifer Holliday and Jessica Sanchez in the finale of “American Idol Season 11” in 2012 of “And I Am Telling You.”
As Marielle portrayed Jessica, JM astonished us with his courage in taking on Jennifer—his fourth gender-switched—who’s not just an ordinary singer but is regarded as one of Broadway's most legendary "power belters.”
Apart from a standing ovation, the “Birit Duo,” who firmly believed that they had a real chance of winning because of what they had shown not just that night but across their past 12 performances, also received rave comments from the jury.
Juror Klarisse de Guzman enthused how JMielle’s performance was the true epitome of “bakulawan” because of how completely powerful it was. Meanwhile, juror Ogie Alcasid quipped that it was “lumalagablab” or full of intense emotion, passion, and energy not just because of how dynamic their vocals were but also of their notable burning passion for their craft. On the other hand, juror Gary Valenciano teased the tandem as well about having a misunderstanding prior to their performance, as JM appeared furious as he stepped on the stage.
Because of the palpable chemistry they’d exhibited throughout their journey on the show, which became the object of teasing among their “YFSF” journey, JMielle was given the “Bakit Di Na Lang Totohanin Ang Lahat?” award.
As hosts Jhong Hilario and Vhong Navarro pushed them in jest to ‘fess up the real score between them, JM simply admitted that they are currently happy with each other.
