Stella (Kim Chiu) recalls her promises and painful sacrifices for her siblings in the March 23 episode of “The Alibi.”
With Stella growing worried over Joseph’s (Enzo Osorio) condition and the mounting medical bills, fear creeps onto her and Katherine (Angelina Cruz), who once again voices her fear of separation after Stella’s imprisonment. “Paano kung mangyari ulit yung nangyari noon? Ayokong mawalan ng kapatid ulit,” she asks Stella, who maintains a hopeful face as she reassures her, “Ito ang tatandaan mo. Hindi mangyayari yun. Hinding-hindi mangyayari yun.”
Stella cannot help but look back on the dark days she faced with her siblings, beginning from the time they lost their now-deceased father. She recalls how her siblings would ask about their mother’s whereabouts, and how she struggled to tell them the harsh truth about their mother—their dilemmas, her involvement with another man, and the possibility of them having another sibling from him.
The older sister then speaks deeply with young Katherine and Joseph. “Gagawin ko ang lahat para mabuhay tayo. Hindi na tayo aasa kay nanay o kahit na sinong lalaki.” Stella hugs the two tightly. Yet this promise comes to a halt when she is later detained for drug use, leaving young Joseph and Katherine bawling as they watch Stella being taken away by the authorities.
With Stella far from home, the wellbeing of her siblings is also at risk. During their visit to the prison, Stella notices the bruises and scars on their skin, urging them to confess who may have caused it. “Makakalaya na si ate. Konting tiis na lang. Magsasama tayo ulit,” she assures them, before asking about their youngest, Joy. Katherine reveals that Joy has been gone ever since. The news sends Stella into tears, broken by the revelation.
