“What Lies Beneath” is inching closer to its highly anticipated finale, and there are even more mind-boggling twists to uncover about Louisa’s (Mutya Orquia) murderer.
It all started with young Edong (Renshi de Guzman), who was falsely accused by nearly everyone in Amurao, his troublesome reputation making it easy to pin the blame on him.
Soon, more suspects emerge, including Liezel (Mary Joy Apostol), Angelo (Marlo Mortel), and the latest addition, Kyle (Kobie Brown)—the popular jock of Amurao High with bitter connections to young Mel (Reich Alim) and Louisa.
Amid all the fan theories surrounding the series’ central mystery, the cast excitedly drops hints about Louisa’s killer in this exclusive interview with ABS-CBN Studios.
First to share her insight, Sue Ramirez, who plays the famous celebrity stylist Mel Barrera-Montenegro, tosses in jokes, insisting she’s not the killer. By the end, she offers a subtle hint that viewers might have already recognized the murderer.
Charlie Dizon, who portrays the outspoken teacher Beth Sevilla-Mora, echoes Sue’s take, emphasizing that their characters are already acquainted with the real perpetrator.
For Janella Salvador, who plays the soft-hearted accountant Alice Quintana-Miller, and Kaila Estrada, the dauntless lawyer Erica Melendez, a lot of ambiguity is necessary to keep the tension going. The two actresses tease that the culprit could indeed be anyone—even their own characters.
“Hard for me to say… you don’t want to give too much away,” Kaila admits.
On to the intriguing Santiago brothers: Jake Cuenca, who embodies the notorious Edong Santiago, points to his younger brother Lucas, brought to life by JM de Guzman.
Jake suggests that Edong might have covered for Lucas’ suspected crime—a theory that feels believable given Lucas’ kind-hearted nature. “You have to see if it’s true,” Jake adds.
Meanwhile, JM doesn’t comment on Jake’s hunch. Instead, he flashes a knowing smile, hinting that the murderer is far from obvious and has likely been lurking in plain sight for viewers.
