For the 12th weekly task of the “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” called “Sayaw ng Filipiniana”, the housemates were challenged to learn and perform two folk dances by the end of the week. And for them to be able to do it, Kuya invited the UP Filipiniana Dance Group of the University of the Philippines-Diliman—one of the premiere folk dance companies in the country established by National Artist Francisca Reyes-Aquino—to train them.
But aside from teaching them how to do the “Sayaw sa Bangko” and the “Binasuan”, Big Brother told the group’s artistic director, Mr. Peter Alcedo Jr., that he wanted them to help his young housemates to gain a deeper appreciation of Filipino culture, origins, and national identity through dance.
As rehearsals for Sayaw sa Bangko began, Mr. Alcedo paired the housemates, with Princess assigned to dance with Joaquin. The pairing immediately unsettled Fred, who was visibly overcome with jealousy upon seeing the two happily practicing together. His initial partner, Lella Ford, later shared in the confession room that Fred admitted to her that he could not bear watching Princess dance with someone else.
Sensing Fred’s discomfort, Lella encouraged him to approach Mr. Alcedo and request to be paired with Princess before practice officially started. The director granted his request, but instead of viewing it as a sweet gesture, Princess appeared embarrassed and displeased by Fred’s sudden move.
In his one-on-one with Big Brother, the “Courtside Charmer ng Albay” candidly confessed, “Nang nalaman kong si Joaquin ‘yong partner niya, parang nagselos po ako. Di ko kaya na panoorin lang sila na masaya, na sinasayaw ang isa’t isa.”
Although there was a brief sense of awkwardness following the incident, Princess and Fred managed to set aside their emotions and delivered an impressive first attempt at Sayaw sa Bangko.
