From mesmerizing us with her sultry performance of “Santa Baby” as Kylie Minogue, which made her the Round 6 winner of “Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 4”, Dia Mate went on to enrapture us with her “sobrang Latina” transformation to global pop icon Jennifer Lopez for Round 7.
But before she took on the stage, she underwent back-to-back rigorous trainings anew with their coaches, Klarisse de Guzman and Nyoy Volante. During her mentoring session with Klarisse, the Singing Reina was taught to put stress and conviction in every lyric that she would utter while still making sure that she’s in sync with the beat. Coach Nyoy also gave her quite the same instruction with regard to moving onstage, as he reminded her to always move with force, intensity, and aggression just like JLo.
And the artist-beauty queen tried her best to apply their pointers in her performance of “Papi”, as she opened the brand-new week on Saturday, December 27. As if singing and dancing at the same time weren’t exhausting enough, Dia still managed to heed host Vhong Navarro’s challenge to teach host Jhong Hilario, guest juror Erik Santos, and a live audience member the signature dance move of JLo.
Even though they weren’t able to find the fierceness and “pitik”, or sharp movements, the Latina superstar has been known for whenever she performs—which the jury all agreed were actually not easy to do, especially since she had to sing at the same time—yet the jury still conveyed their appreciation to Dia’s admirable efforts in becoming the one and only Jennifer Lopez.
