Jingle bells, 'huhubels!' Jarlo Base hit us with the ultimate dose of Christmas 'hugot' as he channeled Ariel Rivera's soulful ballad style in his performance of “Sana Ngayong Pasko” on the December 20 episode of "Your Face Sounds Familiar."
He swapped his usual R&B swag for the crooner's classic OPM tone in a serenade that could melt even the frostiest of hearts. Six rounds in, the jury—Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, and Ogie Alcasid—can see how much Jarlo’s confidence has grown on the “YFSF” stage.
As he performed, the judges could be heard exchanging comments in real time. Ogie exclaimed, "Ang galing!" to which Gary added, "Mayroon, ano? May something," and then mimicked Jarlo’s spot-on vibrato. Gary also asked him to sing a portion of the piece in his natural voice, just to show the audience how far he’d gone in transforming his tone to match Ariel’s. As what Sharon also noted, "May mga timbre si Ariel na kanya lang pero nakukuha mo."
