Ho-ho-Hollywood glam coated Jason Dy’s transformation as Cher, also known as the Goddess of Pop, in Round 6 (December 20 episode) of "Your Face Sounds Familiar."
This marks Jason’s second time doing a gender switch, following his Britney Spears showdown with Alexa Ilacad in Round 4 of the competition. This Cher transformation was also a complete leap from his Round 5 performance as Martin Nievera.
Jason prepared for this round by truly mastering Cher’s “DJ Play A Christmas Song” and watching videos of the timeless diva. Of course, he also made sure to apply the tips from mentors Klarisse De Guzman for the vocals and Nyoy Volante for the movements. He even nailed Cher’s speaking voice, and just everything about her from head to toe, which totally deserved the standing ovation from the judges.
It’s no surprise how well he delivered because as he shared in this episode, he really does have a deep and technical understanding of his craft, having taken up Bachelor of Music.
His performance earned flying colors from the jury composed of Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, and Ogie Alcasid. Judge Gary praised Jason’s dedication to studying the icon he was assigned and pointed out his potential to do theater. As a sort of impromptu audition, Mr. Pure Energy asked him to imitate his co-performer Rufa Mae Quinto, and it was so on-point that you definitely need to watch for a good laugh.
