What’s a Christmas-themed episode without a little Mariah Carey magic? The holiday hitmaker 'graced' the "Your Face Sounds Familiar" stage on Sunday, December 21 through Jona, who transformed into the diva herself and belted out “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
The Christmas spirit was definitely in the air during Jona’s performance, which made the jury—Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, and Ogie Alcasid—proud beyond words. Ogie described her as a gift to the entertainment industry and to everyone who hears her voice, while Gary called her one of the best female vocalists in the country. Sharon added that Jona is a true Filipino pride.
One thing Jona and Mariah definitely have in common is their background in operatic singing. That fun little similarity inspired "YFSF" hosts Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario to challenge Jona, the jury, and some of the celebrity performers to a “Try Not to Laugh” operatic singing challenge, where each one had to showcase their dramatic vocals while the rest tried not to break character. Spoiler: It was chaotic and hilarious.
Jona gave a short sample of “Queen of the Night” from Mozart’s "The Magic Flute" that she often slays in her live performances. Rufa Mae Quinto’s version was a uniquely unforgettable take, while Jason Dy stayed in full Cher mode, and JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano tried to sound like Jose Mari Chan and Liza Chan, opera-style.
