Filipino rock band Aegis took over the “Your Face Sounds Familiar” stage through the years, with our ka-Familiars stepping into the shoes of one of OPM’s most powerful vocal groups. From soaring belts to full-on rockstar energy, each performer brought their own flavor to the iconic Aegis sound.
Here are 3 Aegis transformations that delivered pure powerhouse energy on the “YFSF” stage.
Nyoy Volante & Jolina Magdangal (YFSF Season 1, 2015) - “Sinta”
In the duet episode, Nyoy Volante and Jolina Magdangal performed Aegis’ 1998 hit “Sinta.” Before giving his comments, Coach Jed Madela offered a quick sample of “Basang Basa sa Ulan,” which drew applause from the audience. He later praised the duo, “The look, ‘yung vibe n’yong dalawa, you were working as a team.”
Judge Gary Valenciano expressed how Nyoy surprised him with a performance that felt different from his past transformations. Judge Sharon Cuneta, on the other hand, loved Jolina’s vocal power and appreciated how Nyoy held his own even without doing too much onstage.
Nyoy and Jolina finished as runners-up at the end of the season.
TNT Boys (YFSF Kids Season 2, 2018) - “Sinta”
Francis Concepcion, Mackie Empuerto, and Kiefer Sanchez of the TNT Boys once again proved why they’re a fan favorite, transforming into mini Aegis as they powered through “Sinta” with full live vocals. Their energy and chemistry made it feel like the audience was watching a pint-sized version of the iconic band.
The judges were all smiles, with Judge Ogie Alcasid calling their number “Un-BAE-lievable,” praising how the trio managed to make the crowd laugh, cheer, and fall in love with them all over again.
Coach Jed followed with his reminder that the TNT Boys simply never miss. “The three of you, you are a vocal powerhouse. Ang ganda ng blending n’yo as a group, and ng boses n’yo as individuals,” he said, praising both their harmony and individual strength.
To cap it off, Judge Sharon even snapped a photo of the trio with Aegis’ image behind them, proudly sharing that she’s a fan. “Ang galing ninyong tatlo,” she said, applauding how they brought joy to everyone in the room.
The TNT Boys were hailed as the winners of their season.
Rufa Mae Quinto (YFSF Season 4, 2025) - “Christmas Bonus”
Comedy Bombshell Rufa Mae Quinto lit up the stage as she transformed into Aegis vocalist Mercy Sunot for a performance of the 2000 classic “Christmas Bonus.” She served the perfect blend of fun and rock, keeping the audience hyped from start to finish. The judges enjoyed her performance, with judge Ogie even giving her a standing ovation.
And of course, a Rufa Mae performance wouldn’t be complete without her signature kulitan with the hosts and judges. She shared how much she enjoyed the number and even joked that it was actually Mercy copying her, not the other way around.
Later on, Rufa Mae got the sweetest surprise---a video greeting from Aegis themselves. The band praised her for being able to transform into different performers, not just as a comedian. They also shared how honored they felt to be featured as one of the artists contestants transform into in “YFSF.”
The judges then shared their thoughts, with judge Gary pointing out how Rufa Mae’s performance showed her determination to own the stage. He said that while she might find it challenging to transform into other artists, no one can copy what Rufa Mae does as an entertainer. Judge Ogie and Rufa Mae slipped into another round of playful banter, sending the audience into laughter. In the end, Ogie kept his comment simple and sincere, saying, “Ang galing mo.”
To wrap things up, Judge Sharon highlighted how tough it is to perform as Aegis. “In fairness kay Rufa Mae, hindi ko akalain na kaya niya ‘yung boses na ‘yun,” she said, impressed by how Rufa Mae pulled it off despite the challenge.
Without a doubt, Aegis is one of the hardest groups to transform into---it’s not just about nailing the look, but also reaching their powerhouse vocal range. Yet through these performances, our ka-Familiars not only delivered Aegis-like vocals but also captured the unmistakable fun and energy the band brings to every audience.
