MANILA -- It was indeed a defying gravity moment for "The Birit Duo" JM dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano as they won another round in the brand new season of "Your Face Sounds Familiar" (YFSF).
On Sunday, December 7, the duo was named as the winner of the fifth round of "YFSF" after impressing the judges, fellow celebrity performers and viewers with their impersonation of "Wicked" stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The Tawag ng Tanghalan Duets champions performed "Defying Gravity" and received a standing ovation.
Members of the jury described the duo's performance as amazing and perfect.
"Maraming-maraming salamat. Unang-una sa lahat sa aming jury, thank you so much po. And, sa aming mga co-celebrity performers salamat sa three points. Thank you, thank you so much," dela Cerna said.
"Thank you po for giving us the opportunity po. Salamat po," Montellano said.
Aside from a plaque, "The Birit Duo" also won P50,000 for their impersonation last week.
"Siyempre wala na akong masabi kay Marielle. Si Marielle kahit anong ipagawa mo. I just have to say you are always perfect, Marielle. But si JM kasi babae, mahirap ang pagkakanta niya, napakagaling. Nagawa mo lahat. Kaya 'yung pagtayo namin mula 'yon hindi lang sa puso namin, mula 'yon talampakan hanggang split ends ko. Maraming salamat, napaka-perfect ng performance," juror Sharon Cuneta said about the duo's performance.
"Unlimited 'yung talent niyo. Sabi nila ang galing niyo individually, I agree, but it's also the chemistry. 'Yung chemistry niyong dalawa punong-puno ng pag-ibig sa trabaho. Nakaka-inspire. Hindi ako magugulat kung isang araw kayo na mismo ang gaganap. I'm sure kapag napanood 'yan ni Cynthia at Ariana matutuwa sila. Congratulations!" juror Ogie Alcasid added.
JM dela Cerna, Marielle Montellano impress 'YFSF' judges with 'Wicked' duet
Montellano and Dela Cerna won the fifth round with 36 points from jurors and fellow celebrity performers.
"The Gen-Z Total Performer" actress-singer Alexa Alexa Ilacad, who transformed as Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla was the second highest scorer with 21 points, followed by "The Breakout Crooner" rising singer-songwriter Jarlo Base with 18 points for his impersonation of Chris Martin .
Next week, BGYO's Akira Morishita will transform as Nick Carter of American group Backstreet Boys, Reina Hispano-Americana 2025 Dia Mate will be Kylie Minogue, and "The Comedy Bombshell" Rufa Mae Quinto will be Mercy of OPM band Aegis .
"The Prince of Soul" Voice of the Philippines season 2 grand winner Jason Dy will be Cher and Base will transform as Ariel Rivera.
Ilacad will be Kelly Clarkson and the tandem of dela Cerna and Montellano will transform as Jose Mari Chan and Liza Chan.
Katrina Velarde transforms as Regine Velasquez
Before the announcement of winner for the show's fifth round, the Sunday episode kicked off with the guesting of OPM singer Katrina Velarde.
Once dubbed as Suklay Diva, she is also known for her viral impersonation videos and she wowed jurors and the celebrity performers with her transformation as Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez.
"Actually No. 1 talaga na ini-impersonate ko si ate, kinikilig ako tuwing nakikita ko si ate. My God nakakahiya. Hello Ate Reg," said Velarde, who started impersonating Velasquez when she was still joining amateur singing contests.
The brand new season of "Your Face Sounds Familiar" airs on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z. Viewers can also catch it on TV5 every Saturday, at 8:15 p.m. and Sundays, at 8:30 p.m..
