Kapamilya singer and actress Janella Salvador is making her debut on the theater stage as she joins the cast of The Art of Breaking Up. During the media conference for the highly anticipated staging based on George de Jesus III’s Kung Paano Maghihiwalay, the actress shared how excited she is, as it has always been a dream of hers.
Janella will be playing the role of Lou in this play, which will run from November 6 to December 6, 2026, at the PETA Theater Center.

Her mother, Jenine Desiderio, previously played Yvette and later on, Kim during the initial West End run of Miss Saigon. Theater was something that the Kapamilya actress was exposed to even at an early age.
“Honestly, I’m so excited to begin the process because this has been a dream of mine for more than a… since I was born! I was exposed to my mother doing theater so I really have been waiting for this. It’s a dream come true and hopefully after this I can do more,” she shared.
Relating to the theme of the play, Janella was asked about how breakups could be made less painful.
“That’s possible? Who knows? Honestly. I feel like breakups are meant to be painful. You’re meant to go through it, you’re meant to feel every emotion, and the more you avoid the pain, I think you’re gonna feel it in the end. That’s my take on it,” she candidly expressed.
Meanwhile, Dudz Teraña, the director of the upcoming play, expressed how excited and challenged everyone is.

“I always work with different actors sa theater so this is actually exciting and at the same time challenging for all of us,” he admitted.
The Art of Breaking Up will feature a theater-in-the-round, which allows the audience to see the performance of the actors from all angles. Dudz added how the dialogue and the story by George makes it challenging for them as well.
“I think yung pinakamagandang process dito is yung learning of understanding the character and telling the story to our audience. Doon ako mas excited na mapakita sa kanila na ang breakup ay hindi siya lungkot, hindi rin siya saya–– may iba’t-ibang klaseng proceso ito. Yun yung kailangan nilang panoorin,” he ended.
