Kapamilya actresses Kaila Estrada, Charlie Dizon, Sue Ramirez, and Janella Salvador expressed how important it was to portray and showcase their roles in the series, What Lies Beneath. During the media conference for the finale of the show earlier this month, the four stars all agreed on how impactful and integral each of the characters are.
What Lies Beneath is available on iWant, Netflix, and all other Kapamilya platforms.
For Kaila, acting as Erica was both a pleasure and a responsibility as she believed it inspired viewers and made an impact on society.
“It’s both a responsibility and a pleasure to be able to play a character like this because I feel like as an artist, you want to be in projects that would create an impact or a great impact on society or your audiences. That it will inspire them to be better people like it does for us,” Kaila said.
“We end up having such a better understanding of what it’s like to be that kind of person or at least an understanding by a bit because you never fully know what it’s like. It’s a responsibility, but it’s also very enriching as a person and very fulfilling,” she continued.
Janella, who has previously worked with RCD Narratives who oversees the show, expressed how grateful she is to be part of What Lies Beneath as the story goes deeper than friendship and family –– tackling other societal issues which have been relevant in recent times.
“I think it’s very important that we make more shows like this kasi it sparks conversations. It makes people talk and lalo na sobrang nakakatuwa na yung phone natin marami talagang nanunuod. Nakakatuwa na mas nagraraise ng awareness yung show namin–– all these topics not just one topic na pinaglalaban sa show, madami,” Janella expressed.

Just like Janella, Charlie has had the opportunity to work with RCD Narratives as well in the past and echoed the same sentiments as her fellow actresses. For her, acting in What Lies Beneath was a privilege as she gave life to her role as Beth.
“It’s our pleasure na nakakagawa kami ng ganitong klaseng characters kasi hindi all the time nabibigyan kami ng ganitong characters. Lahat ng characters na appreciate namin pero iba to eh. Iba yung may mensahe talaga yung feeling mo may nagawa ka sa society,” Charlie maintained.
Sue, who played the role of Mel, shared how fulfilled and proud she felt working on this project. She explained how the show gave an opportunity for the viewers to understand more about the challenges women face everyday.
“To give them a better understanding what we’re really talking about, what we’re really fighting for. Napakaimportante ng equality, napaka-imporante ng freedom of speech ng mga kababaihan,” she said.
“Sana may nabago kaming isip kahit isang isip lang at isang utak ang nabago namin diyan, fulfilled na dahil diyan magsisimula ang change. Hindi tayo sabay sabay mag babago pero kahit may isang utak tayo na bago, I think we’ve done our jobs,” she added.
While What Lies Beneath has already concluded on iWant and Netflix, viewers could still enjoy the finale on other Kapamilya platforms.
