MANILA -- Filipina tennis star Alex Eala is now ranked 30th in the world by the WTA after her run to the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open.

This is one spot shy of her career-best No. 29 rating.

The result confirms that she will be seeded at Wimbledon -- the first Filipino player to be seeded at a Grand Slam event since Treat Huey, who was a top 20 player in men's doubles.

She is expected to be seeded at least No. 29 at Wimbledon.

"Can't begin to describe all the emotions I've experienced this week, my heart is full! I am forever grateful," Eala said in a social media post after her exit in Berlin, at the hands of Linda Nosková of the Czech Republic.

In her run to the semifinals, Eala stunned world No. 2 Elena Rybakina and world No. 8 Elina Svitolina.

Before Wimbledon, Eala will first compete at the Bad Homburg Open, where she takes on Beglian veteran Elise Mertens in the first round.

Mertens, ranked No. 24 in the world, holds a 2-0 head-to-head advantage over Eala with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win in the Madrid Open last April, and a 7-5, 6-0 victory at the Monastir Open in October 2023.

In doubles, Eala will be playing with Venus Williams as a wild card.
