Fresh off winning her first WTA singles title, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala said she is excited to reunite with tennis legend Venus Williams in doubles at the National Bank Open in Toronto.
Eala and Williams received the tournament's final main-draw doubles wild card and will open their campaign against Japan's Miyu Kato and Russia's Liudmila Samsonova during Thursday's Centre Court night session.
Speaking at a pre-tournament news conference, Eala said she is looking forward to reuniting with Williams in doubles.
"I'm really, really excited to be playing doubles with her again," Eala said. "Every opportunity I get to share the court with her is super cherished... She's got the great mentality, and there's so much I can learn from her."
She added: "So really excited to be doing that in a different setting, I think it will be very fun. And, you know, I think with the Filipino community and, of course, the amazing fans that she has, I think it will be a great atmosphere."
Eala and Williams were originally slated to play doubles together at the Mubadala DC Open, but the Filipina opted to focus on her singles campaign. Williams instead teamed up with Diana Shnaider.
