
The Philippine Men’s Davis Cup Team continue their flawless run at the Davis Cup Group IV Asia/Oceania zone at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Thursday.
The team beat Kuwait, 3-0, winning both singles and doubles matches.
Players AJ Lim, Jed Olivarez, Niño Alcantara, Iggy Pantino, Ruben Gonzales and coaches Joseph Lizardo and Johnny Arcilla form the national team.
In singles, Olivarez’s match against Ali Ashanti reached a deciding set, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, won by the Philippines.
The first set was a close one lasting an hour under the hot and humid conditions. But Olivarez surged ahead convincingly in the deciding set.
Lim then bested Bader Alabdullah in strong straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
In the doubles match, Niño Alcantara and Iggy Pantino led, 2-1, in the first set when the opponents retired.
The next tie will be vs Qatar on Friday.
