MANILA – The Philippine Women's Lacrosse Team finished in 10th place in its historic debut at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
The Philippines absorbed a tough overtime loss to Argentina, 8-9, at the Oi Stadium over the weekend.
Coming from a 12-4 victory over Wales, the Philippines were in high spirits heading to the 9th game against Argentina.
The Nationals started off strong leading 4-1 early, before Argentina rallied back to 7-5 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Philippines went on a three-goal run to pull ahead 8-7, but Argentina's Olivia Duarte went on to win the opening draw of overtime followed by Emilia DiLiberto scoring her fourth goal to seal the victory.
For Argentina, DiLiberto found the back of the net four times, while Duarte and Gretta White had two goals each.
Steph Lazo led the charge for the Nationals with three goals, while Abigail Beattie produced five saves.
The Philippines capped off its campaign in the tournament with its first-ever win over Czech Republic, 11-5, on Tuesday.
The Nationals finished with 2-3 win-loss record in their debut in the tournament, where they were grouped with Czech Republic, Israel and Japan in Pool D.
"With close matches against the host country Japan and the overtime loss to Argentina, we have just tapped into what this team can accomplish. Our young ones played fearlessly and our veterans showed leadership in difficult moments," Head coach Shannon Nee said in a statement.
"We want to thank World Lacrosse and Japan Lacrosse Association for all of their hard work and support. It was an incredible experience and Tokyo has our hearts!" he added.
The United States took down Canada, 16-4, in the finals to stay undefeated to claim its fifth straight championship and tenth overall.
Canada took home the silver, while Israel clinched bronze in the tournament.
Up next for the PH Women's Lacrosse Team is the APLU Sixes Championship in Queensland, Australia this October.
