Action between the Philippines and Indonesia in the group stage of the 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship, November 20, 2024 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA -- The Philippine women's national futsal team suffered a heartbreaking 1-2 loss against Indonesia to miss out on the bronze medal match of the 2024 AFF Women’s Futsal Championship, Wednesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Rusdiana scored the go-ahead goal with just 74 seconds left in the match, putting the ball between the legs of Philippines keeper Samantha Hughes.
A last-gasp attempt by the Pinay 5 to equalize was denied by Indonesian keeper Diyana Herliana.
The defeat meant that the Philippines -- the tournament hosts -- finished fifth in the group stage with just one point in four matches. They had opened the tournament brightly, drawing 2-2 with Myanmar.
But they were crushed 7-0 by world No. 6 Thailand and 6-1 by Vietnam. A draw against Indonesia would have sufficed to send them into the bronze medal match against the same opponent.

Instead, the loss put them below Myanmar in the standings on goal difference and out of the medal matches.
Alya Hendrita had opened the scoring seven minutes in for Indonesia, before team captain Isabella Bandoja equalized for the Pinay 5 just five minutes later.
"We do not like to lose," said Pinay 5 coach Victor Hermans after the match. "But what can you do? That's futsal or football. It will only be good if we can learn from it."
The tournament wraps up on Thursday, with Indonesia and Myanmar playing for the bronze and Thailand and Vietnam battling for gold.
