MANILA — The Philippine women's national futsal team absorbed a crushing defeat against Thailand in the ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship.
The Filipina booters, also called the Pinay 5, suffered a 7-0 loss from the world's no.6 Thailand, Sunday evening at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Coming off a 1-0 win against Indonesia on Saturday, Thailand imposed its might against the Philippines on Saturday, with Sangrawee Meekham and Sawitree Mamyalee opening the contest with one goal each at the sixth and eighth minute, respectively, for a 2-to-nothing lead.
Paerploy Huajaipetch and Arriya Saetoen then went on to widen the Thai's cushion to 4-0 the pair tallied goals in the 13th and 17th minute, respectively, and it was all Thailand from that point on.
Lalida Chimpabut (25'), Meekham (29'), and Nattamon Artkla (39') leaned on their momentum with one goal each as the game progressed, and this was all they needed to fend off the hosts and tally their second win in the tilt.
They now sit at second in the team standings with a +8 goal difference (GD), while leading all squads is Vietnam (2-0, +10 GD).
On the other hand, the Philippines, which came from a 2-2 draw against Myanmar on Saturday, failed to bank on their promising start to the tourney and fell to No.4 in the team standings with a -7 GD.
The Nationals (0-1-1) still have Vietnam and Indonesia on (0-2) their list of assignments before the regional tilt concludes.
They will face Vietnam on Tuesday, and Indonesia on Wednesday. Both games are at 7:00 p.m. at the same Pasig-based venue.
