He may be best known as a powerhouse dancer and charismatic host, but Jhong Hilario has also established himself as a versatile and top-notch actor throughout his three decades in the entertainment industry, as he delivered truly memorable performances on both the big and small screens.
He is currently captivating viewers of “Coco Martin’s Sigabo” with his compelling performance as Django, the ruthless and deceitful archrival of the titular hero, Gabo, portrayed by the show's acclaimed lead actor and director, Coco Martin.
As we look forward to seeing their next sure-fire showdown that will ignite our screens anew, let us first revisit the initial kontrabida moments of Jhong as Django in this edition of Kapamilya Update.
Right in the pilot episode, we immediately witnessed their intense scuffle as the root of their long-standing rivalry was revealed. They once worked together in the same crime syndicate, but betrayal drove them apart and turned them into each other’s sworn enemies.
Even though he was hesitant at first, Gabo still accepted the mission given to them by their leaders—one of whom was Django's father, Paquito (Rez Cortez)—to assassinate a congressman. They had agreed to just scare the congressman by riddling his vehicle with bullets. Thus, Gabo was completely shocked and taken aback when Django shot their target all of a sudden and quickly sped off on his motorcycle.
A fierce motorcycle chase ensued, culminating in a brutal fistfight when Gabo finally caught up with Django. Out of extreme anger over the betrayal, Gabo relentlessly punched him until he was already bruised and bloodied, as well as threatened to kill him the next time he would see him. Django managed to escape when the authorities arrived and arrested Gabo, as they caught him holding a gun.
As soon as the news about Gabo’s emancipation and return to Ginintuang Lupa after eight years of being imprisoned had reached her, Django took the initiative of challenging him to a duel, as he believed that Gabo had long been yearning to exact revenge on him.
Although he had promised his family and friends to start a new life, Gabo immediately broke it and accepted Django’s dare. After single-handedly taking down his minions, Gabo finally went for Django, and a ferocious battle erupted between them. Driven by anger and resentment, Gabo relentlessly beat Django up until he was nearly knocked out.
Defeated, Django wreaked havoc upon regaining the strength to stand up and firmly swore, “Hindi pa ito ang huling pagtatapat natin, Gabo. Kapag nagkita tayo uli, sisiguraduhin kong paglalamayan ka na!”
Fueled by his burning desire for vengeance, Django remained determined to settle the score with Gabo amid the chaos caused by the attempted demolition of their homes in Ginintuang Lupa. However, instead of shooting his nemesis, Django accidentally shot Gabo’s father, Rudy (Joey Marquez). Despite his failure to eliminate Gabo, Django was still pleased to somehow get revenge on him that way.
And he proudly admitted what he had just done to his father and their allies when they talked about the recent events in Ginintuang Lupa while Paquito was away. Django, as vicious and merciless as ever, declared with pride that he had hit Rudy in the chest, thinking the blow would be fatal. He even anticipated that Rudy would soon be mourned in the days to come—and that Gabo would definitely be next.
