After finally capturing Mr. Chan (Mike Castillo)—their second target in the gold-smuggling case assigned to them—Sam (Julia Montes) and her team are hopeful that Director Fernando Delgado (Soliman Cruz) will acknowledge their success and reconsider her looming suspension, as suggested by Division Chief Pia Catacutan (Katherine Luna) in her evaluation of Sam.
However, instead of praising their accomplishment, Dir. Delgado reacts with anger when the team arrives at the NCIA headquarters to surrender Mr. Chan. His frustration is directed especially at Sam, with Pia adding fuel to the fire by reminding her that she's already ordered to stay away from the case.
Sam firmly argues that she's only fulfilling her sworn duty, but Dir. Delgado chimes in to remind her that following his orders is also part of her responsibility as an agent. He then instructs her to report to his office immediately and asks Agent Sebastian Tuazon (JC de Vera) to take custody of Mr. Chan.
Inside his office, Dir. Delgado confronts Sam for ignoring his orders and violating protocol. Sam defends her actions, explaining that she simply cannot help staying at the office while knowing that the people involved in the aforementioned case live freely. However, Dir. Delgado reiterates that she's no longer authorized to participate in the gold-smuggling investigation because she has already been instructed to step aside.
He tells Sam that instead of proving that she's capable of handling the case, her actions only demonstrate her stubbornness and refusal to follow authority. He then reveals that he has been trying to protect her from suspension following Pia’s unfavorable assessment, but her disobedience has only put his efforts into waste.
Because of the team’s unauthorized operation, Dir. Delgado warns Sam that it's not only her who might face dismissal, but also her team. Hearing this, Sam asserts that her team members should not be implicated in the punishment since she's the one who convinced them to accompany her in that operation.
As Dir. Delgado admits how her disobedience hurts him deeply because has always regarded her like his own child, Sam can't help but get emotional. She sincerely apologizes and tells him that she's prepared to accept whatever punishment the administration decides. However, she firmly maintains that her teammates should not be dragged into it.
