Following NCIA Division Chief Pia Catacutan's (Katherine Luna) recommendation that she be suspended and undergo retraining for allegedly violating mission protocols, which could have jeopardized both her agents' lives and the success of the operation, Sam (Julia Montes) spoke to Director Fernando Delgado (Soliman Cruz) at his office.
She began by admitting how deeply embarrassed she was over the profound disappointment she had caused Director Delgado, especially after he had commended her for successfully capturing notorious gold-smuggling syndicate leader Victor "Tigre" Zafra (JM de Guzman). Determined to redeem herself, Sam confessed that she had been wanting to make up for her mistakes and shortcomings but had no idea where to begin.
Moved by her sincerity, Director Delgado reassured her, saying, "Sam, don't be too hard on yourself. Lahat ng tao nagkakamali, napapatid, natitisod. Bahagi 'yan ng career."
What was meant to be a private conversation, however, was abruptly interrupted by Pia, who overheard them after noticing that the office door had been left open. As Sam passionately expressed her desire to finish the gold-smuggling case entrusted to her and proposed forming a small team to continue the investigation, Pia chimed in.
She sarcastically asked Director Delgado whether the NCIA was operating on favoritism, implying that Sam was being given special treatment. Sam quickly fired back, insisting that she was merely volunteering for a case she knew she was capable of solving. Director Delgado defended her, saying that Sam possessed the skills and competence to lead the operation, but Pia countered by reminding him that Sam had yet to complete the retraining mandated by the committee.
Refusing to back down, Sam argued that by the time she finished retraining, their targets could have already altered their plans and slipped away. But Pia remained firm, telling her that while the NCIA would continue pursuing the case, it would no longer be under her supervision.
Just when Sam thought she had Director Delgado's full support, she was obviously frustrated after he sided up with Pia in the end. He instructed Sam to stay away from the investigation, telling her that another agent would take over the case while the committee continued reviewing her actions and had yet to issue its recommendation. Disheartened and feeling betrayed, Sam could only watch as Pia flashed a smug, taunting grin in her direction.
Just as Sam thought that she had found an ally in Dir. Delgado, she was wrong, as he agreed with Pia's assertions instead. He asked her to not delve into the case anymore since it will be assigned to another agent while the committee is still reviewing her case and has yet to issue a recommendation. As Sam felt dejected, betrayed, and frustrated by what had just happened, Pia flashed her taunting smile at her.
Sam relayed the unfortunate news to her work friends, who sympathized with her situation. But rather than giving in to discouragement, she found renewed determination after noticing the calling card Mr. Chan (Mike Castillo) had handed her during their undercover mission at his jewelry store in Binondo. Despite the looming threat of suspension, Sam declared that she was determined to see the case through and prove to everyone in the NCIA that she was an effective agent.
Knowing that she won't be able to carry out her plans all by herself, she sought the help of her teammates, who immediately pledged their unwavering support. Grateful for their loyalty, she thanked them and reminded them to keep their plan a secret from Director Delgado first until the case gets closed.
