Just a few hours after the Jacinto couple—Ricardo (Edu Manzano) and Isobel (Carmi Martin)—and their business partners left, a police unit arrived at Barangay Ginintuang Lupa to carry out Ricardo’s directive to evict the residents ahead of the planned demolition.
They were met by furious residents armed with improvised weapons, determined to risk their lives to defend the land they had long called home and refusing to be driven away without a fight. Although a court officer presented the court order affirming the landowner’s legal right to proceed with the demolition and development of the property, his explanation appeared to fall on deaf ears. The residents, led by Rudy (Joey Marquez), stood firm in their belief that they could not be driven out of the place they’ve long considered their own.
Amid the chaos, Gabo (Coco Martin) and his friends suddenly showed up after receiving a call from Tekla’s (Sue Ramirez) grandmother and courageously rallied the community and stood against the police. He vehemently declared that they would not allow their homes to be destroyed or themselves to be forced out of Ginintuang Lupa, the place where they were born and where they intended to spend the rest of their days. He and the residents vowed to resist at all costs and not surrender the land without a fight.
The confrontation escalated when the police dismantled the barricade put up by the residents. As authorities struggled to contain the increasingly hostile crowd, they resorted to water cannons to disperse them. Equipped only with a pipe wrench and a pair of rattan sticks, Gabo fearlessly charged into the chaos and fought back against the authorities.
