In the second week of “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal,” two lucky stars already got their shot at the jackpot after the numbers assigned to them were chosen by the lucky wheel—with Bassilyo being the “buena mano,” or the first one to take his turn as a player.
Although the briefcase containing ₱1 million was eliminated in the fourth round, the “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” actor opted to press on, holding onto his chosen case until the very end. He even refused to be swayed by Banker’s final offer of P212,000, as he confidently said, “NO DEAL” to it. His bold decision to swap briefcases with fellow lucky star Aubrey Miles and to decline Banker’s ultimate offer paid off in the end, as his chosen briefcase was revealed to hold P500,000.
In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN Studios right after the show, the seasoned rapper-songwriter relayed how overjoyed he was for being able to take home P500,000.
“Sobrang saya kasi kahit hindi man ‘yon ‘yong 1 million [pesos], ‘yong 500 [thousand pesos] at 1 million [pesos] hindi naman nagkakalayo ‘yon, ‘di ba? At 500 [thousand pesos] is 500 [thousand pesos], napakalaking pera po niyan para sa mga katulad namin,” he stated.
But apart from happiness, he also had jitters as he found the experience extremely nerve-wracking because even though “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” is considered a game of chance, he still had to follow his gut or instinct. He further got nervous once the P1 million was opened since he already knew that Banker would decrease his offer as well.
Bassilyo further related that he actually told himself that if he were to play, he would definitely fight until the end. However, he ‘fessed up about having a moment of doubt when the briefcase with the P1 million was opened, asking himself if he still had something worth fighting for. But upon seeing the excitement of the people around him, especially his fellow lucky stars, that gave him the motivation to continue fighting until the end.
Lastly, when asked who among his fellow lucky stars he thought would take home the P1 million jackpot, he said that it would probably be social media influencer Christine Samson and sincerely hoped she would.
