Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis, who fondly call each other 'sis' or 'sisteret,' may be two very different souls—one a larger-than-life comedy queen, the other a 'pambansang' sweetheart with a contagious giggle—but their chemistry just works and has carried them through sixteen years of beautiful friendship.
Vice recently opened up in an interview with Karen Davila about her friendship with Anne, making our hearts full. "Iba talaga 'yung love ko kay Anne, very special siya sa akin," she said, adding that there was a point when hosting “It’s Showtime” without Anne felt almost unbearable, but with Anne around, "it's a walk in the park, it's playtime."
May this kind of friendship find us all—the kind that, as the Bible puts, loves at all times. Here are some of our favorite ‘ViceAnne’ moments from "It's Showtime" that remind us what it means to have a true friend.
Like real sisters, they show up for both the beautiful and hard times. They root for each other's dreams and make sure the other knows they'll be there through every season of life, no matter how much things change. In a November 2018 episode, the hosts talked about motherhood when a ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’ shared how she had sacrificed her own dreams for her child. Anne, then a year into her marriage with restaurateur Erwan Heussaff, admitted that stories like that made her even more excited to become a mom.
Vice then looked at her 'sisteret' and said with all sincerity, “It won’t be such a big surprise na makita ka namin kung gaano ka kagaling na nanay. You don’t have to be a perfect woman to be a perfect mother. All you have to do is have a beautiful heart and that is enough."
Anne also returned the love, sharing that Vice had once confided in her about being scared of growing old alone. So she assured her friend, "When we all grow old together, kami ni Erwan, we will always be here for you. We can take you in, we will take care of you. Isa ka na rin sa magiging anak namin, eventually, when that time comes."
Vice really manifested it for her sis because exactly a year later, Anne would announce her pregnancy.
One thing sisters do best is hype each other up like nobody else will. When Vice's MMFF 2024 entry “And the Breadwinner Is” started its promo run, Anne was her biggest cheerleader. According to Vice, her sisteret would message her nonstop and was even planning a block screening.
"This is such a moment for you to shine as an actor," Anne told Vice, sincerely proud. "Kilala natin si Vice na laging nagpapatawa lalo na dito sa ‘Showtime,’ pero dito [sa And the Breadwinner Is] makikita ang husay niya as an actor," she added—because when you believe in someone, you want the whole world to see what you see.
To have a friend who prays for you is a gift. On Anne's birthday in 2023, Vice told her that she is a source of happiness and is so easy to love. She then promised to include not just Anne, but everyone she loves, in her prayers. "Kasi kapag okay 'yung daddy mo, masaya ka. 'Pag okay si Carmen (Anne's mom) masayang-masaya ka. 'Pag okay si Jasmine (Anne's sister) panatag na panatag ka. Lalong-lalo na kapag okay si Dahlia (Anne's daughter), panatag ka. Kapag okay si Erwan (Anne's husband) okay na ang mundo mo.”
She continued, “Alam kong 'yung mundo mo halos sa kanila nakatutok. At sila ‘yung biggest sources of joy mo, 'yung mga taong 'yun kaya I hope and I pray okay sila, payapa sila, healthy sila, at maligaya sila dahil 'pag nangyari 'yun winner na winner ka," the Unkabogable Superstar told the one and only Dyosa, who got teary-eyed. Vice loves Anne enough to protect where her joy comes from.
But no true friendship is conflict-free, and even the ViceAnne tandem has had its share. During their 9th anniversary episode, Vice spilled the tea on their first major rift, which happened over a watermelon shake. As the story goes, Anne accidentally knocked Vice's watermelon shake, causing it to spill on the latter's shoe. But what really triggered Vice was that she didn't get the "sorry" she was expecting. When Vice protested, Anne allegedly said, "Kasalanan mo, nilagay mo diyan, eh!"
Years later, they're just laughing about it like it was nothing. It only goes to show that a solid foundation of love gives friendship enough room to clash, and enough grace to forgive. Most especially, there's self-awareness to know when to say sorry first—even when the other person started the quarrel.
These two are so in sync that sometimes even their wardrobes can't help it. One time, they accidentally showed up in similar outfits, prompting Vice to jokingly clench her jaw and say, "Nakikigaya na ng mukha, nakikigaya pa ng damit." See? When friends are truly comfortable with each other, there's no room for rivalry; they just turn even the most random things into the funniest moment of the day.
We'll close this out with one of the most protective thing Vice has done for Anne. In one episode, Vice candidly spilled that during one of their group vacations abroad, she got into an actual fight at a bar because someone had the nerve to disrespect Anne.
Remember, real friends will always have your back.
