Arthur (John Arcilla) warns Vincent (Paulo Avelino) about his beliefs, which could affect their company, in the pilot episode of “The Alibi.”
Upon hearing the news of his father’s plans to close down Cabrera News, Vincent heads to the company meeting. Entering the room, Vincent immediately confronts Arthur, asking for a private talk. This interrupts Matthew (Rafael Rosell), who was in the middle of a discussion, and even mocks Vincent.
Arthur remains unfazed and tells Vincent to schedule a formal meeting through his secretary. Vincent, however, takes his seat and locks eyes with his father. Later, he asks Arthur, “Ipapasara niyo ang Cabrera News nang hindi man lang ako sinasabihan?”
“I’m the chairman, Vincent. I can do whatever I please,” Arthur counters, adding that he owns everything in the building. “Mali kayo, Dad. Dugo at pawis ng empleyado ang bumuo sa kompanyang ‘to,” Vincent argues, stressing that many employees’ lives will be at stake once they lose their jobs. Arthur insists that their company is not a charity these employees can depend on.
“Kung sa tingin mo hindi namin ginawa ang lahat para iligtas ang Cabrera News, truth is not important to people anymore, Vincent. Ngayon, pinaniniwalaan ng tao ang gusto niyang paniwalaan,” Arthur declares. Vincent finds this absurd, especially since his father was once a journalist. “Ang pinapaniwalaan ngayon at gustong paniwalaan ng tao ay yung mga fake news.” Arthur says their loyalty now lies with shareholders, not with the people.
Vincent begins to question everything, realizing that all his hard work may now be wasted. “Hindi lahat ng pinaghirapan mo will stay forever. Kailangan mong sumabay sa agos o mamamatay ka,” Arthur warns. “Hindi porket Cabrera ka, that doesn’t mean you are entitled to everything.” Vincent asks for an ultimatum of three months, promising to release an exposé that will boost Cabrera News’ numbers. He then makes a deal, if he saves the company, he should become its CEO.
