If you’ve been watching "It’s Showtime" long enough, you already know that nobody is safe from Vice Ganda’s 'puksaan' energy, as she doesn’t just banter with her co-hosts but sometimes ropes in the off-cam team in her random shenanigans too.
Among her favorite people to 'mess with' on the daily are the show's beloved cameramen. Vice has turned these unsung heroes into on-cam personalities, thanks to her spontaneous, rib-tickling interactions with them. So, in this edition of Kapamilya Update, let's turn the tables and 'zoom in' on the cameramen themselves!
Meme Vice is so chronically online that she's always updated with the latest craze, especially the ones straight out of Gen Z TikTok. Lately, she’s been pulling out the 'Not Cute Anymore' trend during the 'Laro Laro Pick' segment whenever she spots a contestant wearing a hooded jacket.
Here's how it works: someone pulls off another person’s hoodie in dramatic slow-mo to reveal their “not cute” face underneath. It's a very much Gen Z humor. So when one of the cameramen didn’t get how it’s done, Vice teased him, "Matanda 'yung cameraman. Hindi alam 'yung TikTok trend!"
Since she was also wearing a hoodie, Vice ended up doing a demo herself, with Vhong Navarro helping out. But instead of reaching for the actual hood, Vhong teased that he was going to lift Vice’s wig instead, which is basically their number one 'bardagulan' trigger.
In another episode, Vice tried doing the fad again—but the cameraman still couldn’t get it right. The two ended up fumbling around and totally tangled in confusion, until Vice decided to take matters into her own hands. Literally. She became the 'camerawoman' herself. And after struggling to hold up the heavy equipment while pulling off the act, she suddenly had a newfound appreciation for the crew behind the lens. Right then and there, she announced that she’d be giving the cameramen a bonus.
There was also that moment during a 'Step In The Name of Love' episode when she jokingly started throwing cue cards at a cameraman who zoomed way too close to her face, and then branded him "tsismoso" or too nosy.
And in one episode of 'EXpecially For You,' Vice got surrounded by multiple cameramen pointing their lenses her way. "Parang pasasabugin na tayo," she jested, glancing around like she was in an action movie. LOL!
In one hilariously spontaneous scene, a random shot of a shoe popped up on screen, prompting Meme to react, "Kaninong shot 'yun? Gaano kahalaga 'yung shot na 'yun?" She and her co-hosts went investigative mode, as they tracked down which camera made the mysterious cut. Meme then leaned into the suspect lens, giving us an unintentional extreme close-up of her face. When they solved the ‘crime,’ it turned out the equipment was on, but unmanned, to which she quipped, "May pang-arkila kami ng camera pero wala kaming pambayad ng man."
Speaking of iconic close-ups, in another episode, Vice read her spiels about a 'Dyosa' (goddess), obviously referring to Anne Curtis. Naturally, the camera operator zoomed in on Anne. But when she got to the line about a "host na chumaka" (a host who suddenly turned ugly), guess who the camera zoomed in on? Yep—Vice. Humorously offended, she clapped back at the lens man, "Wala kang ayuda sa Christmas party."
