Big Brother put the Gen Z housemates’ listening and comprehension skills to the test, forcing them to rely on both common sense and logic to decode his confusing commands in the weekly task called "Ang Random Ni Kuya."
Some parts of Kuya’s instructions definitely got a little lost in translation!
If in the previous episode of "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0,", Kuya’s command was as simple as not making any noise aside from the animal sounds he assigned for the boys and girls, this time, the instructions were a lot more complicated.
For his first command of the day (January 23 episode), the housemates had to split into two camps. Solid Six (Carmelle Collado, Joaquin Arce, Heath Jornales, Eliza Borromeo, Sofia Pablo, and Caprice Cayetano) were assigned to the garden area, while the Striving Feathers team (Ashley Sarmiento, Lella Ford, Marco Masa, Princess Aliyah, Miguel Vergara, and Krystal Mejes) were sent to the living room.
But here's the plot twist! Once in their zones, each group had to rank themselves based on who listens and understands best to least. They had three minutes to settle the mental leaderboard. The Striving Feathers breezed through it—Ashley, Marco, Princess, Krystal, Miguel, Lella—from the top listener to the most easily distracted.
Meanwhile, Solid Six was still in the middle of deliberation. They agreed to put Caprice in front, though she was unsure if she deserved the top spot, worried the ranking had something to do with task performance, which she believes isn’t exactly her strong suit. Joaquin, on the other hand, volunteered to take the last spot, "Kasi ako 'yung bingi," he said, referring to his partial hearing impairment. The initial lineup was Caprice, Sofia, Eliza, Carmelle, Heath, and Joaquin. But with Heath low-key defending his listening skills and Eliza unsure about her rank, they agreed to swap in the final seconds.
After the buzzer, each group huddled to discuss how they came up with their formation. Speaking on behalf of Solid Six in the confession room, leader Carmelle explained that they still would’ve ranked Joaquin last even if he hadn’t volunteered, saying he tends to be "makulit" at times and struggles with some Filipino instructions. Sofia then tied it back to their poor communication during the second LigTask, which led to their team’s loss.
As for the Striving Feathers, Lella had no hard feelings about her position, owning up to being easily distracted and her tendency to giggle even in serious moments. However, Princess felt Miguel deserved a higher spot than Krystal since he’s more strategic, which means better comprehension. Krystal humbly agreed.
The weekly task leveled up once more, this time testing not only listening and comprehension but also trust. Kuya would now give his command to only ‘one’ housemate, who would then pass it on to the rest.
Lella, who ranked at the bottom in Striving Feathers, was Kuya’s first messenger. The command was,"Pumunta ang mga lalaki sa gilid ng pool, umikot nang limang beses habang ginagawa ang galaw ng isang palaka." But when Lella relayed the message, she said, "Lahat ng lalaki, umikot sa pool nang limang beses nang naka-palaka." Despite the confusion and exhaustion, the boys gamely did what Lella said. In the end, Lella was overwhelmed with relief when Big Brother announced that they did not make a mistake.
However, inside the confession room, Kuya clarified his instruction to the boys, "Pumunta ang mga lalaki sa gilid ng pool, umikot nang limang beses habang ginagawa ang galaw ng isang palaka," meaning they should've stayed in just one corner of the pool and spun in place—not gone on a whole frog marathon around the water.
Eliza was next to be called. The instruction was, "Buhatin ng dalawang tao si Caprice. Iikot siya sa kitchen counter nang tatlong beses, habang ang bumunuhat ay kailangang magbilang ng isa hanggang limampu sa tamang bilis. Pero tuwing sumasapit sa numerong may number 7, kailangan niyang tumahol na parang aso."
Joaquin and Marco volunteered to carry Caprice, while Eliza overthought everything the entire time. She only got to breathe a sigh of relief when Kuya announced that they had completed the task correctly.
Next up was Joaquin. The command was, "Huwag n'yong susundin ang susunod kong utos. Tumalon kayo nang sabay-sabay nang limang beses." Joaquin repeated the instruction to his co-housemates word-for-word, but the challenge was now on their comprehension.
Marco said not to jump. But Miguel and Heath agreed to jump, confident enough to convince the others. Later, Kuya announced that the housemates misunderstood the task (he said not to follow the next command, which was, “tumalon nang limang beses”), which made Miguel and Heath feel guilty, thinking it was their fault for leading the group to the wrong action.
