There’s more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to the real-life friendship of the talented “What Lies Beneath” cast. Even if their characters are archnemeses or have a complicated history with each other, off camera they share plenty of fun and memorable moments.
Among the star-studded cast, Marlo Mortel almost always expresses his ceaseless excitement in taking part in the show. This time, he adds more to his collection of filmed memories with his onscreen partner, Mary Joy Apostol.
The two play the suspicious-turned-heartbreaking married couple, Liezel and Angelo, who have fortunately been progressing toward forgiveness and healing. In one of Marlo’s TikTok posts, he channels Angelo’s devoted love for Liezel and lip-syncs Apo Hiking Society’s “Panalangin” with Mary Joy, sweetly leaning their heads on each other.
Their cozy car ride continues across consecutive posts, even as they act out some of the most iconic scenes from classic Star Cinema romance films “A Very Special Love” and “Radio Romance.” Evidently, the two are more than happy to immerse themselves as either the Laida-Miggy tandem (Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz) or the Marian-Gary pairing (Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan).
Aside from the kilig-fever and amusing bits, Marlo also warmly shared how dedicated they are to portraying their intriguing characters. In another TikTok post, he spotlights the climax of the agonizing fallout between Liezel and Angelo—particularly the scene where Angelo realizes that Liezel can never truly love him the way she loved Louisa (Mutya Orquia).
Marlo and Mary Joy’s emotions carried through the filming, as right after Marlo delivered Angelo’s final lines—questioning whether he and Liezel still had any reason to be together—the two found it difficult to hold back their tears.
