We signed up for some major acting showdown the moment we learned that Anne Curtis would be stepping into the shoes of famous children’s book author Mia Hernandez, while Carlo Aquino would bring to life the gifted (and oh-so lovable) artist Matmat Gonzales in the Philippine adaptation of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”
With their reputation as powerhouse performers, both having mastered the craft since their child star days, we automatically expected them to slay these roles big time.
And boy, were we right to expect it. These two fit their characters so well that every scene feels tailor-made for them, whether it’s heart-rending drama or sharp bickering (just think of that pillow fight scene that had netizens raving). TBH, their on-screen chemistry is just way too entertaining to miss.
And lately, we've been so obsessed with their behind-the-scenes reels, too. Fans have been going wild over their very first one together, which is a video of them serving face cards! Their version of the “Pogi” TikTok audio has the internet convinced they never age. 'Panis'! Why do they still look the same as when we last saw them work together in a 2008 film? Immortals.
We thought that scene in the series where they started calling each other 'bestie' was already peak cuteness, but Anne and Carlo are even funnier off-cam. It's refreshing to see them so at ease with each other, especially while doing their reels. Before they nail the perfect shot, Anne cues Carlo on which angle would work best for them (IG queen behavior). And then he laughs it off, joking that it’s impossible to match her energy.
In another reel, these two show off their moves with a quick dance. Yup, they’ve got rhythm to match the kulitan! No aloof and intimidating Mia, no quiet genius Matmat—just Anne and Carlo being their goofy selves.
