From simply doing minimal movements onstage during her act in the previous round of “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” Rufa Mae Quinto went on to own the stage as she transformed into Korean-American rapper Jessi and performed her viral hit “ZOOM”.
As soon as she stepped out of the iconator and started singing and dancing, jury member Ogie Alcasid instantly got up from his seat and vibed throughout her performance. Even though she’s impersonating another artist, she apparently couldn’t help but show bits of herself, especially in the last part wherein we’re able to hear signature expression, “whoo!” Besides, the oversized jersey shirt she wore also bore her other trademark utterances, like “Go, Go, Go” behind and “Todo na ‘to” in front.
Apart from heeding the request of hosts Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario to mimic the pose of Jessi in the photo flashed on the LED screen, she also granted their request to teach them the steps of “ZOOM” that went viral a couple of years ago.
Because of how impressed and entertained he was of her performance and her commitment to her icon, Ogie promised that she would get a quite higher grade from her this week—so far. Klarisse de Guzman quipped that she could pass as a Zumba instructor and that she doesn’t deserve to either be the lowest or highest this week because of how she did an excellent job with her impersonation.
Nyoy Volante also commended how he was able to really see Jessi in her performance, while Sharon Cuneta expressed how much she loved the effort Rufa Mae had exerted in this act, considering that she doesn’t speak Korean, rap, or dance—yet she was able to do all of these. Thus, for the Megastar, this is one of her best performances aside from her Moira Dela Torre transformation in the previous round.
