As the “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” experience becomes more real for the Gen Z housemates, Big Brother officially launched their first-ever weekly task called “Candelabra de Horror.”

In the October 30 episode, Kuya called for the oldest among the male housemates, Iñigo Jose of Star Magic, and the youngest female housemate, Caprice Cayetano of Sparkle, to the confession room.

The two mentioned that they had noticed the candles inside the house, which turned out to be clues to their very first weekly task. Big Brother assigned Iñigo and Caprice as task leaders for the challenge, where the housemates must carry a large candelabra holding twenty lit candles, each one representing a housemate. Only five participants at a time are allowed to lift the candelabra, and it’s up to the group to strategize who joins and when to switch turns. However, every time a candle goes out, a housemate can no longer assist in carrying the candelabra. A signal will mark the start and end of each lifting round, and for the team to win, at least one candle must remain lit by the end of the week. To make things even trickier, the entire task must be done outdoors in the garden area.

After leaving the confession room, Iñigo and Caprice immediately gathered the housemates to explain the task and begin discussing their strategy. But even during the first few minutes, their conversation already grew a bit chaotic as everyone tried to speak all at once.

After the meeting led by weekly task leaders Iñigo and Caprice, the housemates brought out the huge candelabra to the garden area where their weekly challenge would take place.

As soon as the housemates got back inside the house, Lee Victor jumped in with his own strategy, giving off the impression that he was taking charge of the weekly task. Later, inside the confession room, Lee explained to Kuya that it just stuck with him when the housemates once said he had this leader vibe, which also led to him being picked earlier as the head of household chores.

However, some housemates noticed how Lee started to overstep during the meeting. The discussion got noisy with everyone talking all at once, and with Lee going nonstop even when the others were also trying to speak and share their input. That’s when Sofia Pablo calmly addressed him, saying, “Sorry, Lee, I appreciate that you want to lead us, but let the task leaders. Sometimes kasi you overstep. I hope you don’t take it the wrong way.”

Inside the confession room, Sofia explained that she just wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to speak because the back-and-forth was getting confusing. In a separate convo with Kuya, Anton Vinzon also shared that Lee just had too many ideas running through his mind at once, which added to their confusion. Eventually, they all decided to follow Iñigo and Caprice, who managed to bring the group back on track with a solid game plan.

After the slight tension during their weekly task meeting, Lee approached Sofia to apologize. Sofia warmly accepted his apology and, being the “Ate” figure that she is, reminded him to practice listening first.

Inside the confession room, Lee opened up to Big Brother, admitting that he did overstep a bit and realized that there were already assigned task leaders other than him. And if anything, he was grateful to Sofia for calling him out early on. “That’s very sweet kasi sinabi niya rin na she’s taking care of me, and I really appreciate that,” Lee opened up.

In a separate conversation with Kuya, Sofia admitted she felt a little guilty about having to call Lee out but explained that communication has been quite a challenge since it’s still their first week inside the house.

Meanwhile, the other housemates also talked about what happened. Iñigo, one of the task leaders, told Anton that part of being a good leader is knowing when to listen, too. The girls—Carmelle Collado, Eliza Borromeo, and Krystal Mejes—commended how Sofia handled the situation with calm and maturity, as well as noted how Lee immediately owned up to his mistake afterward.

As the weekly task continued, Eliza Borromeo, Anton, Sofia, and task leaders Caprice and Iñigo first took on the challenge of carrying the big candelabra. The group’s strategy was to position the stronger housemates, Iñigo and Anton, on both ends, while the more petite Caprice stood at the center to balance the weight. But just on their first attempt to lift up the candelabra, one of the candles in front of task leader Iñigo toppled over.

Although frustrated, Iñigo composed himself, accepted what happened, and said sorry. The group decided not to replace him. According to Iñigo and Caprice, they intentionally joined the first round so they could personally experience the task and figure out what adjustments or strategies would work best for the next teams.

After more than an hour, Anton switched places with Marco Masa to stretch his arms and recover. Midway through the task, Sofia accidentally let out a sigh, which caused the flame of the candle in front of her to go out. From there, the housemates began rotating and switching positions more carefully.

During the first few hours of the candelabra challenge, two out of the twenty candles had already gone out, one of them caused by Sofia, who didn’t realize she had exhaled a little too strongly, putting out the flame right in front of her.

When they went back inside, Sofia was totally feeling the guilt, so the housemates cheered her up and reassured her that no one was blaming her for what happened. Out in the garden, the housemates heard the signal for a pause in the weekly task.

Big Brother gathered everyone and explained that losing two candles meant two housemates could no longer take part in carrying the candelabra. The group huddled to decide. Sofia volunteered to step back since she was the one who blew out one of the flames. Lee also volunteered to step aside, as he felt he could best serve the team as a “warden” watching over the others.

How many candle flames will be left burning by the end of the week?
