Yep, that’s him—the adorable and chatty kid who played Joseph, Mimik (Sophia Reola)'s best friend in the memorable daytime drama “Nang Ngumiti ang Langit.”
And that same 'bibo' boy has grown into one of today’s most promising teen heartthrobs. Miguel Vergara is still charming, just a lot taller, more confident, and yes, young ladies, way more handsome. We're bound to see a newer side of him as he joins “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab 2.0," where young Kapamilya and Kapuso housemates will live under one roof.
So before he makes a new mark inside Bahay ni Kuya, let’s rewind a bit and get to know the "Adorable Smaheart ng Antipolo City" as an actor, student, and all-around good guy everyone’s about to root for.
He started young
This Star Magic cutie practically grew up in front of the camera. At just three years old, he was already making public appearances, starting out in a fashion show.
From there, he quickly found his way into acting, taking on roles in several major films and TV projects including the drama-heavy Star Cinema flick "One More Try," where he played the son of Dingdong Dantes and Angel Locsin. Such a major feat for a little actor, right? Just to get on scenes with two of the industry’s finest already proved that he had the makings of a true star. The critics agreed, recognizing him as Best Child Actor at the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival and the 2013 FAMAS Awards for the same film.
Even as a kid, he was already brushing shoulders with TV royalties. He worked with Judy Ann Santos and Sam Milby in “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” Bea Alonzo and Albert Martinez in “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” and Cristine Reyes in “Tubig At Langis.” Basically, Miguel had an A-list acting workshop growing up.
Miguel later took a breather from showbiz, especially during the pandemic, but his comeback proved worth the wait. He was launched as part of the Star Magic Freshies and joined the cast of “Lavender Fields,” top-billed by Jodi Sta. Maria, where he also reunited with Jana Agoncillo and Marc Santiago, two of his closest friends.
He’s got more than charm—he’s got game
When he’s not acting, Miguel’s the kind of guy who keeps himself busy with hobbies that show both discipline and fun. He’s a legit athlete! He used to join tennis tournaments and even became a champion player. With this, he hopes to compete internationally, too.
Physical sports aren’t his only thing, though. The 18-year-old talent is also into billiards, playing mobile games, and unwinding with good music—he’s got a soft spot for ‘50s to ‘90s hits, especially songs by Elton John. We’re getting a bit of that vintage soul vibe here, and we’re loving it, right?
Miguel, who’s a bit OC when it comes to cleanliness, is a certified “numbers guy” as he actually enjoys math and is even considering taking up Civil Engineering in college. But don’t worry, he’s not into keeping score when it comes to love. He’s an old soul who believes in good, old-fashioned courtship. Currently single (yes, you read that right), his love languages are acts of service and giving gifts, so expect thoughtful gestures, not mixed signals form Miguel.
He’s a total green flag
If you’re looking for a guy who’s effortlessly kind and respectful, Miguel’s your sign from the universe. His parents raised him to always be polite, and it shows from the way he talks to people to how he greets elders with the traditional Filipino gesture of "pagmamano." When he's on set, he makes it a point to greet everyone. And that cute smile of his? It’s basically his default expression.
Miguel’s family has a big influence on the person he’s become. They own a vegetable supply business and a resort in Bohol, and while that sounds fancy, his parents taught him to stay humble. He's naturally introverted but learning to be more outgoing thanks to his dad’s advice.
Faith is part of his foundation, too. His family has this tradition of visiting Quiapo Church every first Sunday of the month, which started after experiencing a financial setback that they believe their prayers there helped them recover from.
Too gentle to hurt a thing, he can’t even kill insects and would rather get bitten than squash an ant. But he might need a little rescue when there’s a lizard in sight.
We can’t wait to see how these “nice guy” traits come into play once Miguel enters Bahay ni Kuya for “PBB Collab 2.0,” where young Star Magic and Sparkle artists will live under one roof.
The new season starts this October 25. Kapamilya talents Bianca Gonzales, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, Enchong Dee, and Alexa Ilacad, as well as Kapuso stars Gabbi Garcia and Mavy Legaspi, return as hosts.
