It was in 2015 when Jason Dy first came to the public consciousness through his remarkable stint in “The Voice Philippines Season 2,” wherein he was declared the eventual grand champion.

Since then, he gradually skyrocketed to stardom, as he regularly performed on “ASAP” and had guest appearances on ABS-CBN shows, as well as doing a number of live shows and collaborations with other artists through which he was able to showcase his impressive singing prowess. With how he’s able to bring out the emotions of every song that he sings and tug at our heartstrings, he is given the moniker “The Prince of Soul.”

And now, Jason is about to show us his flair in impersonating local and international artists as one of the celebrity performers of the brand new season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar.” But before we get to see him take on various icons, let us take a look first at his experiences that can make him a top contender in the well-loved reality competition.

He used to work as a haranista before showbiz

Not a lot of people may know it, but before joining “The Voice” and becoming one of the well-loved artists in the OPM scene, Jason was already using his mellifluous voice to earn a living.

In his “Kuan On One” interview in August 2024, he recalled working as a part-time haranista, or serenade singer, in order for him to earn money to support himself while pursuing his college education here in Manila.

But prior to these, Jason initially displayed his talent singing through uploading videos of himself doing covers of popular songs, such as John Legend’s “Ordinary People” and “Stay” by Rihanna.

He is not just a talented singer, but also a promising songwriter and dancer

Jason may be known for his swooning voice, but not many people are aware that he can also write songs! In fact, even before he made it to showbiz, he had already released an original composition on his YouTube channel titled “2 Have U.” In 2024, he revealed in a magazine interview that it was actually him who wrote three of the singles that he released at the time, namely, “Gusto Ko Pa,” “Ulit-Ulit,” and “Magsabi Ka Lang.”

Aside from having the voice, he actually got the moves, too! It can be recalled that a candid video of him dancing to his Coach Sarah Geronimo’s “Tala” and “Kilometro” during the victory party of an edition of “The Voice” went viral online, as many were amazed by how he slayed on the dance floor. He also had the chance to showcase his dancing skills through his guestings in various TV and live shows.

There are also other videos of the Kapamilya balladeer dancing to various dance trends, which can be found both on YouTube and various social networking sites. He’s sometimes accompanied by his showbiz friends and fellow Kapamilya singers, Kyla, KZ Tandingan, and Yeng Constantino.

He has also dabbled in acting and got cast in three ABS-CBN shows so far

In the 10 years that he has been in showbiz, Jason has been able to prove that he’s not just musically talented, but he can also be an actor. And he was able to showcase his acting chops via his stints in three Kapamilya programs.

He had his acting debut in the 2016 well-loved daytime series “Be My Lady,” wherein he was not only the voice behind the official soundtrack—which was his rendition of the Martin Nievera classic hit of the same title—but also had a special participation as Emerson Francisco, a fellow nurse of Erich Gonzales’ character, Pinang.

In 2018, Jason played the third party to the lead couple in the “Bitin” episode of “Ipaglaban Mo.” His latest foray into acting was in the “Planner” episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” in 2021, wherein he played the third wheel to the letter sender-couple portrayed by Jameson Blake and Charlie Dizon.

Are you as excited as us to see Jason Dy showcase his singing, dancing, and acting prowess at the same time through his sure-fire performances in “Your Face Sounds Familiar”? Well, you better not miss an episode every Saturday and Sunday night on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, and TV5 beginning this October 4 and 5!
