Maki detailed his journey in creating his first studio album Kolorcoaster.
In an interview with MJ Felipe on Are You G? of TFC, the singer-songwriter shared that the idea of having colors as the concept of the album sprung when he released his track "Dilaw."
"Actually 'yung concept ng colors talaga nagsimula siya sa 'Dilaw.' Ako po kasi talaga whenever I write songs, I first think about the concept... I know where to go even sa visual dapat lahat sila cohesive," he explained.
Maki relayed that that he wanted to showcase his love for the arts through the album. "I dug deeper sa kung ano ang gusto kong mangyari na mga next track tapos sabi ko sa sarili ko why not colors kasi mahilig naman ako sa arts? And I'm a huge advocate po sa mga Filipino artists as well na don't have enough opportunities. Gusto ko po mabigyan sila ng spotlight as well sa album na 'to. Actually, ang dami pong artists kaming hinire for all the visual arts po na nalalagay ngayon," he shared.
The album will feature ten tracks, including four previously released singles: "Dilaw," "Namumula," "Bughaw," and "Kahel na Langit."
In the interview, Maki talked about the two upcoming tracks from the album, which are "Turning Green" and "Indigo (With U)."
According to Maki, "Turning Green" is a track that he wrote from someone's point of view. "[For Turning Green], medyo kakaiba kasi hindi ko siya sinulat from my POV. Sinulat ko siya from a POV of another person. Meron tayong thinking minsan na madali naman silang mapatawad as long as they say sorry. Nilagay ko siya sa kanta 'yung mga gusto kong marinig from that person nilagay ko siya dito," he shared.
He went on: "Para siyang kabaliktaran ng 'Namumula' kasi 'yung color theory, ang kabaliktaran ng red is green. Parang nilagay ko pa rin 'yung red flag element dito because the ex is the red flag but also dito sa 'Turning Green' is 'yung parang pagsisi sa tao na 'yun na hindi niya nakita na the grass isn't greener on the other side. Ayun po 'yung pinaka-concept ng 'Turning Green.'"
Meanwhile, "Indigo (With U)" is a song he wrote for a specific person, expressing his willingness to face life's uncertainties with that person.
"Indigo kasi para sa akin is the color of uncertainty. Parang you are going in a tunnel na you don't know where to go, kung anong nasa loob. But as long as you are with this person taking that risk, go! I'm Indigo with you. Parang let's go in the Indigo as long as I'm with you," he said. "I wrote this song for a specific person na kahit basta anong mangyari if you say go, sunod ako," he shared.
