Ahn Hyo-seop will be attending the Oscars for the first time as part of the hit Netflix animated movie KPop Demon Hunters.

According to a report by Maeil Business Newspaper, as translated by Soompi, the actor will be present at the 98th Academy Awards, which will happen on March 15 (US time) in Hollywood.

His agency, The Present Company, also confirmed to Ilgan Sports that the actor had received an official invitation to the ceremony.

Hyo-seop voices the character Saja Boys' leader, Jinu, in KPop Demon Hunters.

The animated movie earned two nominations at the Oscars: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Golden."

KPop Demon Hunters centers on Huntr/x, a K-pop trio juggling their superstar lives with a hidden mission which is battling demons. Their double life takes a dangerous turn when they clash with the Saja Boys, a rival boy group whose members are revealed to be actually demons.

In an interview with My Daily in June 2025, Hyo-seop shared why he decided to join the project.

"I was curious about exploring a new genre and the unique process of voice acting. I also had a strong desire to create an enjoyable memory for fans overseas who have shown me so much love. The way the project conveys the message of 'love' through music and K-Pop also felt very unique to me," he said as per English translation.

The actor also revealed that the film's director, Maggie Kang, personally reached out to him before he joined the project. "Before joining the project, director Maggie Kang sent me a letter. Through it, I could feel her warmth and her deep love for the project," he relayed.

Hyo-seop described KPop Demon Hunters as "while it’s a fantasy, it's also a story that touches on our real-world experiences."

"One of my favorite Korean words is areumdapda (beautiful), and within that word is also the meaning of being true to oneself. This story carries a message about embracing the unique beauty that each of us has, recognizing our own special qualities, and loving ourselves just as we are," he remarked.

On Friday, March 13, Netflix announced that the animated movie will have a sequel, which will be written and directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.
