MANILA — Brian Castro, a product of Ateneo de Manila University, is set to be an Asian import in the Japan SV.League after signing with Fragolad Kagoshima.
Castro shared the development Friday in a virtual press conference hosted by his talent agency, VP Global.
"I'd like to say I'm very excited. This is one of the biggest experiences I'll ever do in my volleyball career. I'm very excited. I'd like to say thank you to the whole team that's helped me get to this point," said Castro.
The former Ateneo middle blocker said he's preparing mentally and physically as he enters the next stage of his volleyball career.
"But me preparing, right now I'm in the US. I'm just enjoying seeing my family and friends for now. But I'm also been playing volleyball, getting ready mentally and physically.I actually just played volleyball right now, but once I come back in the Philippines in two weeks, I'll be playing volleyball even more consistently," he said.
The former Blue Eagle also bared the lessons he absorbed during his stay in Ateneo.
"I'd like to say the one thing I'm gonna take away from being, or planning for Ateneo for these last two years is resilience. You know, it was really tough going from the US to the Philippines, you know, being homesick and all that, but I think resilience is gonna be the biggest thing that I'm gonna take away from being from, and being an Atenean."
The middle blocker, in his last season in the UAAP, helped Ateneo reach the Final Four in Season 88, although they fell to top-seeded FEU with a twice-to-win disadvantage.
