Photo from SAVA/fileMANILA — Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Tonyboy Liao said that they will send out invitations to other university players and Premier Volleyball League (PVL) free agents after the Alas Pilipinas core begged off from participating in the AVC Women's Volleyball Cup 2026.
The development was first reported by volleyball correspondents who attended a PNVF event.
“We will start invites for other university players & PVL free agents,” Liao told ABS-CBN Wednesday in a message after confirming that Alas Women, led by team captain Jia de Guzman, declined the initial invite.
Liao first disclosed last month that they rolled out invitations to the Alas core that played in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.

The volleyball executive also shared that Alas head coach Tai Bundit is expected to sit out national team duties after an accident in Bangkok, Thailand.
