De La Salle University star Amie Provido against Adamson University in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball. UAAP Media.MANILA — De La Salle University was in danger of heading into another five-setter against Adamson University, but Amie Provido came through with timely plays as the Lady Spikers remained unscathed in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball.
Provido provided 18 points — five from blocks, and with nine points coming in the final set — helping La Salle erase a 13-18 deficit en route to its eighth straight victory.
For the 5-foot-11 senior, stepping up in crucial moments is part of fulfilling her responsibilities, especially as the Lady Spikers parade a mix of veterans and young stars in their redemption campaign.
“As the first middle, as an Ate, I really need to step up,” said Provido, who also had three digs and one reception against the Lady Falcons. “Kailangan kong ipakita na andito ako para sa kanila, na maaasahan ako.”
The 22-year-old added that this is her way of leading by example, as the Lady Spikers anticipate bigger targets on their backs in the second round.
“Lagi kaming sinasabihan to not be complacent. Kasi kahit unbeaten kami, dito sa second round makikita yung totoong laban kasi nagbabasahan na yung mga teams,” said Provido.
As she looks to help La Salle win its first championship in three years, Provido vowed to keep providing consistency to further elevate her teammates just before she concludes her collegiate career.
“Dito sa second round mate-test yung mental toughness ng team,” she said. “So ipagpapatuloy ko pa, at alam ko rin naman na andyan naman yung mga batchmates ko.”
