MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Number one team Creamline claimed an outright quarterfinals spot after cruising past 12th-ranked Nxled, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Cool Smashers have secured the top seed in the next phase and will be waiting for the results of the play-in tournament. They will take on the eighth team from that phase.
Middle blocker Bea de Leon was the only Cool Smasher in twin-digit scoring against Nxled with 12 points including five blocks, leading the offensive efforts of the PVL powerhouse. Meanwhile, it was playmaker Kyle Negrito who pulled the strings with 15 excellent sets.
Wary of the shocker which Galeries pulled off earlier in the day against Cignal, Alyssa Valdez, the captain of the Cool Smashers, acknowledged that they need to be careful as a team which has targets on its back.
In return, they made it clear through their game — no upsets.
They dominated from first serve to finish, ending the contest in just one hour and 21 minutes.
"I think we want to take that situation as well to have extra focus and motivation to stay aggressive and stay on our target this game, dahil sa nangyari sa kanila [Cignal]," Valdez said, who tallied six excellent receptions and four points.
As for the Chameleons, they still have a chance in the play-ins.
Chiara Permentilla paced the defeated side with a game-high 14 points, which all came from spikes.
