MANILA – If competing in front of an energetic home crowd wasn't enough support, Karl Eldrew Yulo's family was full force at the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships on Thursday in Pasay City.
The 17-year-old delivered an inspired performance in front of his family, proudly watching and cheering from the stands, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom.
"Sobrang saya ko kasi nung una si kuya [Carlos] noong 2019 SEA Games nangyari din 'yun, sinuportahan namin siya. Ako naman ang next," he told reporters.
(I'm very happy because before when it was my older brother [Carlos] during the 2019 SEA Games, this all happened, we all supported him. Now it's my turn.)

"Nagpapasalamat ako andito sila. Sinuportahan nila 'yung last Junior Worlds ko. And sa susunod, sila naman ang dadalhin ko sa competitions ko sa ibang bansa," Eldrew added.
(I'm very thankful they [my family] is here. They supported my last Junior Worlds. And next time, I will bring them to competitions overseas.)
Before the men's qualifications in the evening, Eldrew was already upbeat knowing his family would come to support him as he competed in all the apparatus.

Present at the stands were his older brother double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his girlfriend Chloe San Jose, his parents Mark Andrew and Angelica, and other relatives and friends.
Carlos was all praises for Eldrew after he qualified for four gold medal events, two of which are his pet events -- the floor exercise and vault.
"Super nakaka-proud po especially sa high bar. Floor din ang ganda ng pinakita niya [Eldrew] po. Super nakaka-proud kasi nakita ko yung practice niya, talagang pinaghirapan niya po yun," he said.
Eldrew's sisters Elaiza and Joriel were also in the venue as part of the tournament's volunteers and workforce.
Eldrew will compete in the finals of the individual all-around, floor exercise, vault and horizontal bar over the weekend in the same venue.
