MANILA – The 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships officially kicked off on Thursday at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
The opening ceremony began with a colorful and vibrant performance highlighting Filipino culture and traditions.
Journey frontman Arnel Pineda delivered an electrifying rendition of the official theme song "Going for Gold" alongside the mascots of the international competition.
FIG president Morinari Watanabe graced the opening ceremony and declared the games officially open.
Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick Gregorio and other sports officials were also present to show support to the gymnasts.
Eldrew Yulo banners the men's contingent of Team Philippines, alongside Batang Pinoy standouts Hillarion Palles III and CJ Pernia, as well as multiple Palarong Pambansa gold medalist John Anthony Palles. They will compete in the men's all-around qualifications beginning 7:45 p.m.
The women's team composed of Elisabeth Antone, Sabina Tayag, Maxine Bondoc, and Jellian Bantilan will see action on Friday.
Over 300 athletes from 75 national federations will compete for gymnastics glory from November 20 to 24.
