MANILA -- University of Santo Tomas wrapped up its campaign in the UAAP Season 87 women's football tournament with a 2-0 triumph against the University of the Philippines, Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Field.
Christy Logastua opened the scoring in the third minute and found the back of the net again in the 47th to secure a third-place finish for the Lady Booters.
"Deserve ng girls yan. Mentally and emotionally gusto talaga nila kunin kahit third place lang. I know we're struggling sa first round but hindi sila affected masyado, hindi sila nagkaroon ng low morale. Parang every game is a challenge and we keep on telling the girls na kaya niyo yan, kailangang maniwala sa sarili niyo," said UST head coach Marjo Allado.
After a draw with UP in the first round, UST finished the tournament with 8 points and a goal difference of minus-1, securing third place.
UP struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, with Jansen Miranda coming closest to an equalizer in the 31st minute.
However, her attempt was just inches away from the post and went off target.
The result left UP in fourth place with 5 points and a goal difference of minus-10.
UP will look to end their campaign on a positive note when they face De La Salle on December 7 at 6:30 p.m.
