MANILA – The Gilas Pilipinas Women made sure to end their campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup in Warsaw, Poland in memorable fashion.
The Philippines defeated World No. 11 Italy, 17-13, to clinch its first ever win in the tournament and cap their bid on a high note.
After losing to China earlier in the day, Gilas Women was already out of contention entering the match against the higher ranked European squad.
In their final match, Camille Clarin found her shooting touch after struggling in their first three games.
Clarin's hot hand lifted Gilas past Italy, as she nailed four two-pointers in the victory.
Italy went on a late rally to stay within two, 13-15, but Clarin's final jumper dashed the European squad's hopes with over 23 seconds left on the clock.
Clarin finished with eight points along with two rebounds, while veteran Afril Bernardino added four markers and two boards.
Mikka Cacho and Kacey Dela Rosa chipped in three and two points respectively.
Caterina Gilli carried Italy on her back, producing nine points and three rebounds in a losing effort.

In their first game of the day, Gilas Women started strong against China as they built a 6-1 lead early in the contest.
But China showed their poise and experience to take the lead and eventually the 12-20 win over the Philippines to advance to the knockout stages.
Gilas Women ended their FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup campaign with a 1-3 record to finish fourth in Pool C of the tournament.
Only the top two teams of each pool automatically qualify for the knockouts, while the third placed squads get another shot at a play-in.
This is only the Gilas Women's second time to compete in the FIBA 3x3 Women's World Cup, after the 2018 edition that was hosted by the Philippines.
