The De La Salle University product shared that he will be making a trip to the United States next week for a personal training camp, and this is a part of his goal to become the first-ever Filipino to play in the NBA.
“I’m flying out next week to the US, training muna,” said Quiambao on Wednesday during his Adidas Adizero Select 3.0 Player Edition ‘KQ63’ pre-launch party in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
“Ako lang mag-isa pupunta doon, so hopefully, good things will happen,” he added.
However, Quiambao — who recently signed a three-year extension with his Korean Basketball League (KBL) team Goyang Sono Skygunners — was mum if his training camp is a prelude to a possible NBA Summer League stint.
“No one knows,” he pointed out. “‘Di ko alam pa kung anong future naka-handa sa akin. Basta ako, right now, I’m working as hard as I can.”
“Super positive ako. All for gain naman eh, nothing to lose ako. If ever walang makuhang opportunity, balik ako sa Korea,” he added.
Despite dealing with an ankle injury in his first year in Korea, the two-time UAAP MVP still noted 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 steals in 23 games for Goyang Sono in the 2024-25 season.
And for Quiambao, if things don't pan out in the US, he will be making the most of finally playing a whole season with his KBL squad in their 2025-26 campaign later this year.
“Bitin,” he lamented. “23 games lang yung nilaro ako, so excited ako na merong buo [next season].”
Quiambao is expected to be one of the Skygunners’ main weapons moving forward, especially since he impressed despite seeing limited action due to the aforementioned injury.
He even had a 31-point, 11-rebound game in their win vs. Wonju Dongbu Promy last March 1, and this was after his stellar 12-point, 18-assist performance on top of eight rebounds in another victory last February 26 against Jeonju KCC Egis.
